"The company's problems have been building for many years. It has not made money on its core North American auto operations since 2004, and since that time it has run up $72 billion in net losses, including this latest period."
Need anyone say anything else more? Forget it. Let it burn.

Summary
My Circuit City Experience
I bought a Lenovo Y430 Ideapad exactly 15 days ago (Saturday, October 11, 2008). So far its a great machine (I'll blog more about the laptop at another time). I used it for a week while on vacation in Maui. It worked great on the plane, in the hotel and at a recent Board Meeting in Boston.
About seven days ago, though, I noticed that one of the pixels in the monitor "went out." In other words, it stopped working. This really isn't that big of a deal, its a micro-dot on my screen and doesn't interfere with my ability to work or watch DVDs on the laptop - but - it is a brand new machine and I expect it to be in 100% working order for at least six months before pixels start going out.
So, on day 15 (today, Sunday October 26, 2008) I decided to take it back to Circuit City and exchange it for a 100% working machine. Before I drove to CC, I decided to call them and ask them about their return/exchange policy. I spoke to a nice young lady on the phone, I explained the issue but noted that I was on day 15 and that their policy for full returns and exchanges is only for 14 days. She reassurred me that "oh, its okay, just bring it in...the managers will probably make an exception, they always do." So, I removed all of my personal files, assembled all of the original packaging and drove to Circuit City.
Well, to make a long story short, the manager stuck to his guns and said that since it outside of the 14 day period that they couldn't issue an exchange. I asked him if I had come yesterday if he would have exchanged it and he replied "yes." So, 1 day makes the difference? He replied, "Yes, it is our strict policy. Besides, you should have bought the Extended Warranty."
I replied, "C'mon, this broken pixel broke days ago.....and you are going to punish me for 1 day? " He said, "Yes - that is our policy. If you had bought the warranty then it would be no problem."
He then said, "If you had told me that the sales rep that you purchased the laptop from didn't mention the extended warranty to you as an option than I would have made an exception and made the exchange."
I replied, "Well, I'm not a dishonest person......I wouldn't lie to get my way. The sales rep did tell me about the warranties and I opted against it."
The manager replied, "Well, if he hadn't told you I could make an exception."
SO, EVERYONE READING THIS BLOG! NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO RETURN OR EXCHANGE SOMETHING TO CIRCUIT CITY JUST LIE AND CRY FOUL THAT THE SALES REP DIDN'T TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY WILL ACCOMMODATE YOU. IN OTHER WORDS, JUST LIE TO THEM.....ITS WHAT THEY WANT.
Or, to put it another way, Circuit City claims that the only way they give good customer service is if you lie to them - in fact, they encourage it.
So, I'm stuck with a brand new machine that has broken pixels in the LCD just two weeks after the purchase. Now, you might be saying, "Well, you should really be complaining to the manufacturer Lenovo for poor quality." And, I'd agree with you - but the reseller/retailer should stand behind the products and services that it represents and should focus on the customer experience to provide value-add rather than just pushing everything back onto the manufacturer. Otherwise, what is the point of buying a product from a retailer/reseller? I could have just bought the product direct from Lenovo at their website.
What irks me about the entire situation is that the manager had an opportunity to win a customer for life. I should say, he had an opportunity to win-back a customer for life. I've always hated Circuit City. My wife and I refer to the sales reps as "sharks" circling you as soon as you walk in the door. Everyone knows hates the place and they havn't done much of anything to change their reputation.
I've always hated Circuit City and have always chosen BestBuy and Costco (because of their STELLAR and UNSURPASSED Customer Service!) over Circuit City. But, I made an exception this time. I thought to myself, "I'll give them another chance and I bought the laptop from them against my gut feelings about them."
Note: ALWAYS go with your gut!!! ALWAYS! The older I get the MORE I realize how RIGHT my gut feelings are!
This manager could have said, "Look, you are just 1 day outside of our policy but I can make an exception." I would have told everyone I know that "Circuit City is different - they've changed - they are better than they used to be." I run a small business myself and I, personally, make exceptions to my own policies all of the time in the interest of my customers. A negative customer experience is FAR worse (ten-fold worse) than a positive experience - and this time its going to be more than ten-fold worse).
Instead, I'm writing this blog and I will NEVER, EVER buy from them again and I'm going to make sure that everyone I know knows about their lack of service and I'm going to tell all of my employees and my customers and family to never buy from Circuit City.
It was such a minor issue. It was such an easy issue for them to resolve. Simply exchange the laptop - send it back to Lenovo and press THEM for shoddy worksmanship. Afterall, as a reseller, they should have the interest of their customers (and their reputation) at the forefront of their business.
Instead, Circuit City (this manager (his red, tired, bored-with-life-so-I'm-going-to=make-all-of-my-customers-lives-worthless-too-eyes)) took an opportunity to give an extraordinary experience to a customer and they squandered it because of "their policy." What a worthless company. Devoid of human empthay, understanding or care.
The Reality & the Facts
Circuit City is one horrible company and is about to go bankrupt. Good! Good riddance!
Circuit City stock (NYSE: CC) is trading at .24 cents. Meanwhile, BestBuy is trading at $22 dollars. Just look at this chart that compares the stock performance between BestBuy and Circuit City, it pretty much says it all:
Also, a quick glance at the headlines for this company (on Yahoo) are:

Why is it that everywhere I turn, I hear a politician talking about raising taxes?
In a down economy? People are hurting.....so lets take more money from them? Huh?
Falling Dollar, higher gas, groceries are more expensive, inflation on the rise, banks folding.....and all I hear from the mouths of politicians (on both sides of the aisle, but mainly on the Left) is that we need a tax for this and a tax for that!
How is this good for Americans?
It's like they are kicking the American People when we are down.
No wonder the approval rating of the President is at 29% and Congress is at 9%.

About 1.5 years ago when my wife's PC died I decided to buy her an iMac. Afterall, "they are so much better than PCs" and they are "so intuitive."
What a crock of sh-t.
My wife's Mac has been NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS.
First of all, the computer is slow. It drags, it's slow, it hangs - it's slow.
So we upgraded the memory to 2GB - it's still slow.
Secondly, it crashes or hangs randomly. For no reason.
(we thought it was the memory.....and then we thought it was Firefox eating resources. Its not either - the Mac is just a P.O.S.)
Thirdly, the iMac is NOT INTUITIVE if you are a PC user.
i.e. "To install an application (.dmg file) you have to click and drag it to the location where you want to install it." WHAT? Huh?! What the hell is a .DMG file? Its the furthest thing from intuitive.
Compared to my PC, how is something that is "executable" (.exe in PC language) NOT intuitive? When I want to install something on my PC I have to click something that EXECUTES A COMMAND.....like "INSTALL."
Fourthly, what the hell is with having to "enable the right click?"
Fifthly, I come back from a week in Boston on business and my wife tells me that "the iMac is useless; It keeps asking me to restart over and over again."
So, I check it out and can't make heads or tales of anything. There are no error messages, no alerts - nothing. Instead, when I click on Safari or Software Update....NOTHING HAPPENS! NOTHING! How the hell is THAT INTUITIVE?! I need some feedback if I'm expected to troubleshoot.
So, after fumbling around I figure out where to turn the Console on and view the Logs while I try to launch Safari or other apps and I keep seeing ".......safari.crashed" "crashed" etc.
Yeah - Macs are better than PCs.
Guess what I'm typing this blog post on? (Hint: The manufacturer is located in Austin, TX and is the largest computer manufacturer in the world!) Where does Apple rank? #5? #10? no wonder
So, after realizing that "the Mac is toast" I call up Apple Care and try to get their help.
After being on hold for 15 minutes (memories of Microsoft!) someone from another country answers the line (memories of all the worst customer services experiences that I've had with other large companies). How do I know he is in another country? I know because there is a two-second delay in our conversation and it takes 3 round trip exchanges for him to FIGURE OUT WHAT MY NAME IS because we keep talking over each other!
So far, I'm not impressed with AppleCare. So far, it's the same as every other customer service line that I've ever called.
The first thing the guy asks for is the Serial # that is located underneath the computer (again...NOT intuitive....why isn't it on the back of the computer? Or better yet, why couldn't he look me up via a customer # or invoice # or AppleCare #???) - blood is starting to boil -
Secondly, he asks me to "locate the Install Disks."
WHAT?!
THIS IS TROUBLESHOOTING?! LET'S TRY RE-INSTALLING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM!?!?!?!?!?!
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN REINSTALLING WINDOWS? HOW IS THIS BETTER?
I told him that we needed to explore other options besides "reinstalling the operating system." So we try a few other things (permissions repair??? disk repair????)
FOR ALL THE PC USERS OUT THERE - THIS BRILLIANT APPLE REP ESSENTIALLY HAD ME RUN THE EQUIVALENT OF "CHECKDISK" OR "DISK DEFRAG."
Once these are "complete" he tells me, "so if you have any more problems feel free to contact us."
HOLD THE PHONE! (I'M IN A FULL RAGE AT THIS POINT.)
I STILL CAN'T OPEN SAFARI OR RUN SOFTWARE UPDATE YOU FOOL!!!! RUNNING CHECKDISK (er....Permission/Disk Repair) DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! (besides wasting 30 minutes)
He continues to tell me that he needs to consult with his manager about what to do next.
[Huh? The Apple rep runs out of ideas after running "Check Disk?" At least a Microsoft or PC help desk rep has a few more tricks up his sleeve!]
After waiting for 5 minutes on hold - he comes back to tell me that we need Archive my files and Re-Install the Operating System. Its going to take a minimum of 45 minutes...more like 60 + minutes.
WHAT!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? THAT'S IT? THAT IS THE ANSWER?! REINSTALL THE OS AND LOSE MY CONFIGURATIONS AND REINSTALL MY APPLICATIONS!?!?!?!!?!?!?
NO THANKS. I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER TWO HOURS TO FOOL AROUND WITH THIS NONSENSE.
I'M BACK WHERE I'VE BEEN 5 YEARS AGO TROLLING FORUMS TRYING TO "FIX MY COMPUTER." THIS TIME ITS A MAC. AND INSTEAD OF GETTING HELP - I GET A BUNCH OF SMART-ASS ELITIST REMARKS FROM MAC SUPPORT GROUPS. "Dude - Macs are way better than PCs. They are so much more green and efficient."
FOR ALL OF YOU MAC IDIOTS OUT THERE!
YOU SPOILED ROTTEN RICH KIDS WHO'S PARENTS BOUGHT YOU YOUR MACBOOK TO TAKE NOTES AT SCHOOL - INSTEAD YOU WASTE TIME ON FACEBOOK, RECORDING VIDEO BLOGS, PHOTOSHOPPING PICTURES AND LOOKING AT PORN.
LISTEN TO ME ALL OF YOU GENIUS'S.
HOW IS THIS ANY BETTER THAN A PC?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!? IT'S IDENTICAL (AT BEST). IT'S ACTUALLY WORSE B/C IT'S NOT INTUITIVE AND THE SOFTWARE APPLICATION OPTIONS ARE FEWER THAN A PC AND 2 TO 3 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE!
I'M USING A DELL WORKSTATION WITH XP AND IT'S FINE. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. IT NEVER CRASHES. I NEVER REBOOT. I NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT. I NEVER, EVER, EVER HAVE TO CALL TECHNICAL SUPPORT. AND, I CERTAINLY NEVER HAVE TO REINSTALL THE OPERATING SYSTEM.
AND THIS DELL COST ONE QUARTER THE PRICE OF THE PIECE OF JUNK IMAC THAT WE HAVE.
MY DELL IS GREAT....
IT JUST WORKS!

In April 2007 I predicted a Clinton/Obama ticket for the Demicans and a McCain/Giuliani for the Republicrats. So far so good!
Although, I'm not sure it makes any difference at all.

People are asking if the California Fires are being caused by or a result of Global Warming.
Um, in many cases, and this case too, it's arson. A result of human behavior.
This is how a genius from Princeton University answer's the question:
Can we say that the brutal San Diego wildfires were directly caused by global warming? Princeton's Michael Oppenheimer put it this way on NBC Nightly News Tuesday:
"The weather we've seen this fall may or may not be due to the global warming trend, but it's certainly a clear picture of what the future is going to look like if we don't act quickly to cut emissions of the greenhouse gases."
"May or may not..."
"...but it's certainly ..."
You idiots.
